He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Discharged for wounds on 7 January 1863. Re-enlisted on 28 December 1863 and appointed Sergeant. Wounded in action in the Wilderness, VA in May 1864. Transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps on 13 April 1865.
