Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 21 year old farmer living with his father and 5 younger siblings on their farm near Marksville in Avoyelles Parish, LA. He enlisted in New Orleans on 9 May 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 2nd Louisiana Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and transferred for exchange, date not found. He was wounded by a gunshot at Chancellorsville, VA, on 3 May 1863 and afterward in CS hospitals at Lynchburg and Richmond, VA to 18 August. He was admitted to a Richmond hospital on 29 November 1863 with a gunshot to his face received at Mine Run, VA on 27 or 28 November. He returned to duty in January 1864 and was killed in action (probably in the Wilderness, VA) on 5 May 1864.
