From Butler, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 5th Georgia State Troops on 15 October 1861 and mustered out with them in May 1862. He enlisted again, as a Private in Company G, 6th Georgia Infantry on 13 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

His service from Henderson1, who says only that he was last noted in the roll of 31 August 1862. Death information here from an exhibit of his bible (now at the Minnesota Historical Society), which was found on his body on the field at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

His memorial is on Findagrave; it has his burial at Washington Confederate Cemetery in Hagerstown, MD, but his name is not on the list of those probably buried there.
