Not quite 25 years old, he enlisted in Doylestown on 8 August 1862 and mustered as Private, Company F, 128th Pennsylvania Infantry on 15 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of his wounds on 21 September 1862, probably at a field hospital near the battlefield.
