Age 19, he enlisted in Reading on 5 August 1862 and mustered as Private, Company A, 128th Pennsylvania Infantry on 10 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862, not quite two weeks after his 18th birthday.

Service information from Bates1 and the Register.2 His gravesite is on Findagrave. His brother Daniel Pyle (1835-1898) enlisted in 1861 as a Corporal in Company B, 93rd Pennsylvania Infantry and was a Lieutenant by the end of the War.
