Age 20, from Jackson Township, Tioga County, he enlisted in Troy on 16 May 1861 and mustered into service as Corporal, Company C, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
