Before Antietam

A 21 year old farmer in Chatham, he enlisted on 18 September 1861 in Tioga County, and mustered into service as Private, Company H, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry later that month in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial on South Mountain to the National Cemetery about 1867.
