An 18 year old farmer in Towanda, he enlisted there on 26 August 1861 and mustered as Private, Company G, 50th Pennsylvania Infantry in September 1861 in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and buried on the field [map].

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial to the new National Cemetery in about 1867.
