He was a clerk in St. Landry when he enlisted in Company C, 6th Louisiana Infantry on 4 June 1861. Promoted Sergeant on 9 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Captured about 7 November 1863 at the Rapidan River (VA) while in the hospital. He was at the Armory Square Hospital in Washington, DC on 9 November, then transferred to the Lincoln US Army Hospital 23 January 1863. Released on taking the Oath and sent to NY on 22 March 1864.
