Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted as Private in Company A, 16th Georgia Infantry on 11 July 1861. He was appointed 5th Sergeant on 22 April 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was captured in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap.

The remainder of the War:
Exchanged. Captured near Knoxville, TN. 3 December 1863. Transferred from Rock Island, IL to City Point, VA for exchange on 2 March 1865. No later record.
