In the Antietam Campaign:
He was captured in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap.

The remainder of the War:
Sent from Fort Delaware, DE to Aiken's Landing, VA on 2 October 1862. Exchanged 10 November 1862. Killed at Spotsylvania, VA 11 May 1864.
