Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted as Private in Company B, 16th Georgia Infantry on 17 July 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was captured in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap.

The remainder of the War:
Transferred from Fort Delaware, Delaware to Aiken's Landing, Virginia for exchange, October 2, 1862. Exchanged November 10, 1862. Transferred to Company C, 3rd Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters and appointed 3rd Corporal June 8, 1863. Wounded at Spotsylvania, Virginia May 10, 1864. Roll dated January 29, 1865, last on file, shows him on wounded furlough. No later record.
