He was captured in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap.

The remainder of the War:
Sent from Fort Delaware, Delaware to Aiken's Landing, Virginia for exchange October 2, 1862. Admitted to General Hospital at Camp Winder, Richmond, Virginia, October 11, 1862. Transferred to Camp Lee, Richmond, Virginia, October 18, 1862. Appointed Corporal in 1862. Died August 5, 1863.
