In the Antietam Campaign:
Elected Junior Second Lieutenant 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Promoted Second Lieutenant October 1862, and First 1st Lieutenant 29 January 29, 1863. Wounded in right shoulder at the Wilderness, Virginia May 6, 1864. Surrendered, Appomattox, Virginia April 9, 1865.
