Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Rutherford County, he enlisted as Private in Company A on 10 March 1862. Promoted to Sergeant.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
He was promoted to Corporal on 1 November 1862 and Sergeant 1 October 1863. Deserted to the enemy on 8 March 1865 and was imprisoned in Washington, DC on the 10th. Released on Oath, date unknown.

After the War:
Possibly died in Clover, SC.
