From Gordon County, he enlisted with two brothers on 31 August 1861 in Company A, 23rd Georgia Infantry.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Captured at Chancellorsville, VA 3 May 1863. Paroled in May 1863. Roll for 30 April 1864, last on file, shows him present. No later record.
