Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted as Private in Company G, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 9 October 1861. Appointed First Sergeant in February 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Captured at Fort Harrison, VA 30 September 1864. Paroled at Point Lookout, MD 17 March 1865. Received at Boulware & Cox's Wharves, James River, VA for exchange on 19 March 1865. No later record.
