Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 21 years. Enlisted April 23, 1861 at New York City; mustered in as First Sergeant, Company D on May 4,1861, to serve two years. Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Company B, to date from April 20, 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He transferred to Company D, November 22, 1862. He mustered as First lieutenant to date from January 30, 1863, transferred to Company A, March 17, 1863, and mustered out with his Company on May 20, 1863.
