Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 21 years. Enlisted August 21, 1861 at New York City and mustered in as Private, Company E, to serve two years. He was promoted Corporal June 12, 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He died September 28, 1862 of wounds received in action at Antietam.
