Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted (probably in August 1861) in Company H, 7th West Virginia Infantry and transferred to Company B.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in the chest in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was discharged for disability in 1864.

After the War:
He died of pneumonia.
