He enlisted in Company C, 7th Ohio Infantry on 20 June 1861 at age 22, and was appointed Sergeant on 20 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 6 November 1862. He was mortally wounded in action at Ringgold, GA on 27 November 1863, and died on 30 November.
