Before Sharpsburg

A 24 year old unmarried laborer in New Orleans, he enlisted in Company K, 6th Louisiana Infantry on 4 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. Promoted to 4th Corporal 17 September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg, and captured there on or before 30 September.

The rest of the War

He was received at Fort McHenry, MD 13 October 1862. Sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. Declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November. He was with his unit to November 1863, when he was taken prisoner at Rappahannock, VA on the 7th. He was received at Point Lookout, MD from Washington, DC on 11 November 1863. Paroled until exchanged at Point Lookout 10 March 1864 and received at City Point, VA 15 March. Promoted to 4th then 3rd Sergeant. Captured 5 May 1864 at Spottsylvania Courthouse, VA. again held at Point Lookout from 18 May. Transferred to Elmira, NY on 15 August 1864. Paroled at Elmira on 25 February 1865 and exchanged at James River, VA. On the Roll of Prisoners of War of divers companies and regiments (detached) Confederate States Army who were paroled at Meridian, MS on 10 May 1865.
