He enlisted in the 3rd Company, Washington Artillery on May 26th, 1861 in New Orleans.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to his Company onn 22 February 1863. He was captured inn action at Gettysburg, PA on July 5th, 1863. Transferred to Fort Delaware, DE on July 12th. Paroled and Forwarded to City Point,VA for exchange on March 7th, 1865. Received at James River, VA March 10th to 12th, 1865, and exchanged. Present in the following engagements: 1861, Bull Run, Va., Manassas, Va., July 21st. 1862: Rappahannock Station, Aug. 23rd, Manassas, Va., Aug. 28th, 1863: Fredericksburg, Va. or Chancellorsville, VA May 3rd.

After the War

In 1875 he was appointed Commissary Sergeant of the Battalion as it reorganized post-War.
