He enlisted in Company E as Private - July 10, 1861. Elected 2nd Sergeant on 24 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

Appointed 1st Sergeant in or before January 1863. He was captured in action at the Wilderness, VA on 12 May 1864. He was held at Point Lookout, MD and Elmira, NY. He was paroled there for exchange on 11 October 1864.
