He was appointed Assistant Surgeon, 155th Pennsylvania Infantry on 12 September 1862 and joined the regiment on the march to Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He was promoted Surgeon on April 10, 1863. He resigned January 2, 1865.

After the War:
He was practicing medicine in Lancaster, PA by 1890.
