Before Sharpsburg

He was a 21 year old clerk in New Orleans when he enlisted in Company D, First Louisiana Volunteers on May, 1861 in New Orleans. Promoted to First Corporal on August 1, 1862.

On the Campaign

He was detailed to stay behind as a nurse at Sharpsburg, and was captured there on or about 21 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was forwarded to Fort McHenry, MD in November 1862 and paroled. He was exchanged at City Point, VA on December 4, 1862. He was elected Sergeant on March 25, 1863. He was killed in action at Chancellorsville, VA on May 3, 1863.
