Before Sharpsburg

He was an 18 year old farmer in Winnsboro when he enlisted in Company E, 8th Louisiana Infantry on June 19, 1861 in New Orleans. He was absent sick in Charlottesville, VA in August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was sent to Ft. McHenry, MD, then City Point, VA on November 12, 1862 where he was exchanged. He was absent sick at Gordonsville, VA to February 1863. He was captured at Strasburg, VA on September 23, 1864, and sent to Harpers Ferry, VA on October 3, 1864. He was transferred to the US Army General Hospital at Point Lookout, MD on January 27, 1865. He was received at Coxes Landing, James River, VA February 14 or 15, 1865, and exchanged.
