Before Antietam

A wool spinner from Lowell, he enlisted in Company A, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 22 on 25 May 1861. Wounded in the shoulder and abdomen in action at Cedar Mountain, VA on 9 August 1862. Returned to duty 19 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the heel in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

Discharged for disability from wounds 25 June 1863. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Invalid Corps (13th Company, 2d Battalion, U. S. Veteran Reserve Corps), and served at the Marine Hospital, Department of the Missouri.
