Before Antietam

A painter from Clinton, he enlisted in Company D, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry at age 22 on 11 May 1861. Promoted to Corporal, 12 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the neck in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He enlisted - without first returning to the 2nd Massachusetts - in Company D, 16th US Infantry on 2 April 1863.

After the War

He was a painter in Grand Rapids, MI by 1872. He built a house in Grand Rapids in 1885, and was still there in the 1910 US Census. He had a drug store on Cherry Street there about 1897.
