He enlisted in Company K, 8th Ohio Infantry as Corporal at age 28 on 5 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was appointed Sergeant on 7 May 1864. Mustered out with his Company on 13 July 1864.

After the War

From about 1864 he was a pioneer storekeeper and trader in Wilson County, KS with his brother Oscar, who laid what what became Coyville there.
