He was a 17 year old clerk when he enlisted 28 April 1861, at New Orleans, LA in Company D, First Louisiana Volunteer Infantry. Present on Rolls to June 1862. His enlistment extended for two years or the War "by reason of Conscript Act passed April 16, 1862". The Roll for 1 September 1862 says he was discharged, being under 18 years of age, but he rejoined his Company on the Maryland Campaign.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
