He enlisted 28 April 1861 in New Orleans in Company D, First Louisiana Infantry as Corporal. He was a steward, age 27 when enlisted. He was appointed First Sergeant on 9 October 1861. He was wounded in a skirmish on 25 June 1862. He was commissioned First Lieutenant, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
