Before Sharpsburg
From Essex County, he enlisted 12 August 1861 in Company F, 9th Virginia Cavalry.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action on 15 September 1862 in Maryland.
The rest of the War
He was held at Ft. Delaware, and exchanged there on 10 November 1862. He was wounded in action on 13 September 1863. He returned to duty in May 1864 but was captured in Caroline County, VA on the 29th of that month. He was paroled from the prison at Elmira, NY on 23 June 1865.
