Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Lowell, he enlisted in Company A, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 18 April 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps on 1 July 1863, serving in Company C, 14th Regiment, mustering out as a Corporal.

After the War:
He was listed as living in Abrams, WI in 1892 and 1905.
