Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Oshkosh, he enlisted in Company B, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 19 April 1861. He was appointed Corporal (date not given).

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He was wounded again, in action at Chancellorsville, VA (1863). He died of disease at Fayetteville, TN on 31 March 1864.
