Before the Antietam Campaign:
Came to Wisconsin about 1858. From Oshkosh, he enlisted in Company B, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 21 April 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He was discharged 18 March 1863 for disability.
