Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Brodhead, he enlisted in Company C, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 5 March 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
Transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps on 12 December 1863, and mustered out on 5 March 1865.

After the War:
By 1884 he was living in Victoria, IL.
