Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Sylvester, he enlisted in Company C, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 22 April 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He was discharged for wounds on 31 December 1862.

After the War:
He died on 14 August 1864.
