Before the Antietam Campaign:
A farmer from Exeter, he enlisted in Company C, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 22 April 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He was discharged for wounds on 8 May 1863.

After the War:
By the US Census of 1870 he was farmer in Mazeppa, Wabasha County, MN. In the 1875vState Census he was in Forest, RIce COunty, and in 1880 at Morristown.
