Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Millville, he enlisted in Company F, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 27 May 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps on 15 February 1864, and mustered out 9 May 1864 at the expiration of his term of service.

After the War:
In the Enumeration of the Soldiers of the Late War of 1895, he was living in Lancaster, WI.
