He was an unmarried 34 year old clerk from Evergreen, AL when he enlisted as Private on 25 April 1861 in Company E, 4th Alabama Infantry. Promoted 2nd Sergeant, date not given. He was wounded in action at 2nd Manassas, VA on 28 August 1862.

Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
Promoted Ordnance (or Orderly) Sergeant 20 September 1862. Brevetted 2nd Lieutenant on 11 October 1862, commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 10 June 1863, and First Lieutenant on 6 February 1864.
After the War
He may have moved to Texas, and died in Alabama.
