Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was an unmarried 27 year old farmer from Evergreen, AL when he enlisted as Private on 31 August 1861 in Company E, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was wounded at Gaines Mill, VA in 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
He was wounded again, in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863.

After the War:
He was killed by a falling tree in Conecuh County, AL after the War
