Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was a Mexican War veteran and an unmarried 35 year old engineer (or pilot) from Mobile, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company A, 4th Alabama Infantry.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Transferred 1 June 1863 to the 44th Alabama Infantry. He was in Companies A and D, and promoted First Sergeant, date not given. He was in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863, and was killed in action at Chickamauga, GA on 19 September 1863.
