Before Sharpsburg
He was an unmarried 19 year old farmer from Tuskegee, AL when he enlisted there on 28 April 1861. He mustered as a Private in Company B, 4th Alabama Infantry in Lynchburg, VA.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was present with his company in action in most engagements at least through the siege of Petersburg in 1864.
After the War
He was probably in Texas by 1875.
