He was an unmarried 28 year old mechanic from Dalton, GA when he enlisted as Private on 2 May 1861 in Company F, 4th Alabama Infantry.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Present with his Company in action in most engagements until he was killed in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863.
