Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was an unmarried 18 year old druggist from Huntsville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company F, 4th Alabama Infantry.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Present with his Company in action in most engagements into the siege of Petersburg in 1864, having been wounded in action at Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA in May 1864.
