He was an unmarried 27 year old mechanic from Huntsville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company F, 4th Alabama Infantry. Present with his Company in action in most engagements from First to Second Manassas.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Present in action in most engagements at least to the siege of Petersburg in 1864.
