Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was an unmarried 28 year old farmer from Marysville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company F, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present with his Company in engagements from First to Second Manassas.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Transferred to the (2nd) Company H, 59th Virginia Infantry after Sharpsburg, date not given. He ended service as a Corporal.
