Before Sharpsburg

About 17 years old, he enlisted 27 May 1861 in Linden, TX, and mustered as Private in Company D, First Texas Infantry on 6 June 1861 in New Orleans.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and was held in Fort Delaware from about 12 July. He died there of pleurisy (lung disease) on 26 May 1865.
