He was an unmarried 24 year old mechanic from Huntsvile, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company F, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present with his Company in engagements from First to Second Manassas, VA in 1862.

On the Campaign

Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

Present with his Company in action in most engagements until Manassas Gap, VA in July 1863. He was captured while straggling, date and place not given. Reported to have taken the Oath in Old Capital Prison, Washington, DC [in 1865?].
